Cyber safety

.
Cyber safety refers to the safe use of ICT equipment or devices. It is important to keep the

internet safe for children and teenagers by incorporating security measures. The internet

has illicit content as well as criminals who prey on children and unsuspecting individuals

Cyber safety : at first I don’t know what does cyber safety mean and then through searching ant translating I know its meaning. This is the most topic that I like because it presents real problem that many people around us or even us face like these issues and they and I need to know the ways that protect us from this issue.

We discuss this issue in the watsapp we were in a group of  6 with the doctor. We discuss this issue from different sides(e.g. how can we protect our children from cyber bulling , what is the role of teacher and what is the role of parents also what are some of the problems that can be faced with children) we consider more on children because children nowadays are using smart phones and using Ipad and they don’t know the problems that might appear especially that their  parents themselves provide these technology for them and they don’t give them limited time to use because they also don’t know the negative impacts that would appear. As a result we cannot blame the children because they are not being taught how to use these technologies

As  a result

children might be exposed to content that is sexually explicit, violent, prohibited or even illegal. They may also experience cyber bullying or be at risk from contact by strangers because they might share personal information without realising they may be subject to identity theft, or that they are leaving behind content that might not reflect well on them in the future
So how can we protect our children  and keep them safe while using the internet
Should we prevent them from using the internet or the technology at all or what should we do
The answer would be that we can not prevent them at all because we are living in the technology century that cause every one in the world to use the technology and we want them to be more improved in their learning and thinking through the use of technology other than the tradtional method that they get bored of it so we want the to learn but and entertain but in safe ways

So we can protect them by:

Know what your children are doing online

Get to know the technologies your children are using

Discuss the risks with your children and agree on some rules for internet use

Tell your children if they are uncomfortable talking to you they can contact the Cybersmart Online Helpline (Kids Helpline)

Place the computer in a family area of the home

Make sure your children know not to share personal information or photos Report

inappropriate, harmful or criminal activities that occur online or via a mobile device

These steps should be followed by both parents and teachers

So as future teacher I am thinking before using the technology  with them to teach them how to use

these technology tools  and what are the risks the might appear through using of these tools and how

to protect ourselves

One Example of Cyber safety study:

The  research project is the undertaking of a repeatable survey instrument and methodology for data

collection on the changes in awareness and behaviour in relation to cyber safety, and relevant

e-security, risks.

The first component of this project is a survey of parents and carers on children's cyber safety and

e-security issues. The results of the parents' survey provide valuable information to assist in

understanding the nature and prevalence of risks facing children using the internet

The key findings included

  • the majority of parents had implemented preventative measures to reduce the risks to their
  • children when online and had spoken to their children about the risks involved
  •
  • almost one in two parents felt that that they were well-informed about cyber safety issues
  •
  • one in three parents was very concerned about the safety risks of their children when online
